My daughter just turned two and she is safely walking up and down the stairs while holding onto the rail. She has been trying to climb over the baby gate at the top of the stairs. Should I just take the gates down now? At what age is it safe to remove them?
Sounds like it’s time to take that gate down now! You wouldn’t want your child to climb over and possibly fall from the additional height that the top of the gate adds. Consider putting it up at bedtime, and maybe hanging a bell on it, in case your daughter gets up during the night. She might not be quite as adept at those stairs when she’s sleepy. Like many milestones, this one happens at different ages for different children. I’d recommend a rule that your child doesn’t head downstairs in the morning until you do, as she’s still at that age where you pretty much don’t want her out of your sight unless she’s sleeping
